Weather Woes on a Wedding Day!

January 28, 2009

As a Wedding Videographer you run into hundreds of unknown and unforeseen issues on a wedding day. They span from programs that change in a hard beat, bridal party members dropping out, and wedding dresses not fitting to the caterer running out of food. However having bad weather on a wedding day can be a show stopper.

Our best defense against bad weather is to be aware of the days’ forecast. Also try and understand the stability of weather in your area or of your destination wedding location. In places like Iowa and Tennessee the locals tell you to stick around for a few hours and the weather would change. In Texas luckily our brides only have to look up in the sky and can tell you the weather for the next five weeks.

But jokes aside, no matter where you live it is prudent to know the weather for your wedding day and your honeymoon ahead of time. You only are jeopardize your special day if you resort to guessing. There are many tools online that can give you a general idea of the weather for your wedding day months ahead. For example: Weather.com, enter the zip code of your area and the site should give you weather average of the area.

Let’s say you looked up the weather and you still got a snowstorm or heavy rain for a surprise. Try to arrange a few solutions that would salvage your day. For example: check with your wedding venue if they have an alternative for outdoor wedding. If snow is prevalent in your area, see if your wedding venue has someone who would shovel and salt all the walkways on your wedding day. If it is rain you are facing that day, see if the wedding venue or your church provides valet for your guests or extra umbrellas to keep your guests dry. If they do not provide that service, arrange for a friend or relative to help out. In any situation do not forget to check with your bridal party if they need help to reach the Church or wedding venue.

As you are amid signing contracts with any vendor, address the issue of weddings that need to be cancelled due to weather or any other unforeseen issues and how they would handle it. To give you an example; last year I had a couple whose wedding was cancelled due to a hurricane Ike in Houston, Texas. Luckily all vendors were gracious enough to reschedule their wedding day. As an informed bride or groom, make sure you understand what your options are with your vendors in case of any mishaps.

How to book the Wedding Venue you fell in love with!

January 23, 2009

blue_line There are times in life when our hearts are set on something and we can't quite let go. But with a little bit of effort we may actually get it. That can happen with Wedding Venues. Many times brides may fall in love with one specific place. However; due to budget restrictions or other unforeseen reasons end up not being able to book it. Like any other metropolis; Austin Wedding Venues range from private ranches, resorts, hotels, inns, banquet halls, restaurants, clubs, gardens, museums, mansions and yachts on Lake Austin. Now let’s cover options that we have in getting the Wedding Venue of our dreams: Rates are seasonal.

Some Wedding Venues have off and high season rates. Off season rates at times are a good percentage off the full price. The wedding industry considers early spring, late fall and mid-winter periods to be off season. Rates may also vary based on the weekday. Saturday usually is the most popular and most expensive day. However if you are open to holding your wedding on a weekday or a Sunday, you may actually get it for a more affordable price. Hour of the day may also differ in rates. You can hold your wedding earlier in the day and offer a luncheon instead of dinner. Either way your wedding can be as glamorous as a Saturday evening wedding. This arrangement may also drop the price. Trade complementary features.

Some venues offer features like guest chairs, tables, cleaning, reception attendants and many others that they may be open to have you do yourself or without and lower your overall cost. Divide the cost. These days there are no formal rules on who pays for the wedding. If you have people in your life who are trying to breaking down the door just to help you with your wedding expenses. Have them help you with the Wedding Venue expenses.

The last option is not for the faint of heart. Be flexible with your wedding date. If it means that you can change your wedding date to book a venue, well take that into consideration. Venues that have been in business for a long time may know of dates that are hard time book. Snatch yourself that date. Just keep in mind that popular Wedding Venues can be booked six to 12 months out.

Arm yourself with questions and options that you can discuss with the site coordinator. All it takes sometimes is a sense of creativity and courage to ask. Of course it helps, as you are making your wedding plans, to have a vision of your wedding day. Keep in mind that expensive venues do not make a wedding. You are the center of your wedding day! So if you find an interesting and romantic place that you consider it to be perfect, share it with your family and friends.
